Tir Project Brief

July-August 2009

The Tir Artists’ Exchange Project is dedicated to advancing the work of visual artists who speak, or have knowledge of, a Celtic native language through its Artists in Residence programme. The chosen artists must live in a Celtic speaking area of Wales, Ireland or Scotland.

The theme of the exhibition is Tir which is Welsh and Gaelic for land or earth. The four artists chosen will produce, whilst in residence, a collective body of work that will be exhibited in the three partnership countries. They will also take part in a community based programme, inspired by shared cultural experiences, at each chosen venue.

Catrin spent 5 weeks during July-August 2009 at Taigh Chearsabhagh, Lochmaddy on the island of North Uist. She had been selected to be part of the Tir residency project - the project will bring artists and galleries from Wales, Ireland and Scotland together. In time a touring exhibition will be arranged for all the project artists - this exhibition will visit: Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw Gallery, Llanbedrog - November and December 2010; Celtic Connections, Glasgow - February 2011; Sabhal Mor Ostaig, Skye; Taigh Chearsabhagh, North Uist; City Hall, Galway; Aras Eanna, Inis Oirr; Ionad Culturtha, Co. Cork; Ionad an Bhlascaoid, Co. Kerry; Void Gallery, Derry; MOMA Cymru Wales, Machynlleth; Oriel Llangrannog.
