Cerdd Dant frocks

I’ve been working on ‘cerdd dant’ pieces since 2003, but most of the work on these frocks was completed during a recidency at Oriel Mostyn in 2005 - these were exhibited in Kansas in 2007.

The frocks are a tribute to Dodo Nen and Yncl Dei (Auntie and Uncle) for getting me to compete at local eisteddfodau - singing in folk songs and cerdd dant/penillion competitions. For many years I would go on my holidays to Glanrtwrch when the Llanuwchllyn Eisteddfod was held - and I would get a new frock for the occasion. At times I would forget the song lyrics as I would become very nervous and I used to write a few lines on my hands just in case I would be overcome by nerves on the stage - by wearing one of these Cerdd dant frocks I would have one thing less to worry about.

It was a great honour for me, in November 2008, to be asked to create an image for the cover of a CD by Côr Seiriol - a female choir led by Gwennant Pyrs, my cousin and a daughter to Dodo Nen and Yncl Dei. The choir tour Switzerland during the summer of 2011 and my image is to be used on their posters, The tour has been organised by a cousin of mine and Gwennant - Nerys Llwynmawr.

Come to tea

Flowers, kitchen crockery and utensils - my mother’s busy kichen. Luned, my daughter, also enjoys baking cakes and our kitchen in Pwllheli is now very similar to the kitchen I remember at Llwyniolyn - she's inherited this kitchen enjoyment from both grandmothers!

Yr Aran from Tŷ Cerrig

Meirionnydd landscapes - sketched in the company of my father and in the sound of his stories of threshing, selling sheepdogs and working hard. I should have recorded his stories.
